INDIAN CYBER MAFIA

INDIAN CYBER MAFIA is an India-origin nationalist hacktivist collective that emerged publicly on Telegram on 30 March 2023. It has operated within a broader Indian-sympathizing ecosystem and has been associated with website defacement, DDoS activity, data-leak claims and retaliatory campaigns against Pakistan, Indonesia and Bangladesh.

The group gained early visibility during an India–Indonesia cyber-retaliation cycle. A contemporaneous investigation observed multiple Indonesian university pages defaced after the actor claimed retaliation for attacks on Indian cyberspace, while a promised data release was not independently validated.

The actor’s strategic model is visibility-driven rather than covert. Public defacements, alliance signatures, geopolitical slogans and channel amplification convert relatively shallow compromises into propaganda effects. Later activity includes a Pakistani government defacement during the 2025 Pahalgam escalation and a claimed Bangladeshi university incident.

Current maturity is moderate-low. Defacement archives show recurring label use, but no bespoke malware, persistent C2 infrastructure or repeatable enterprise intrusion chain has been attributed. AhnLab placed the actor in a low-risk tier in late 2025, suggesting limited current influence or channel activity.
