BD Black Hats

Bangladesh Black Hat Hackers (BBHH; BD Black Hats) was a Bangladesh-based nationalist hacktivist group that gained attention during the 2012 India–Bangladesh cyber conflict. Contemporary reporting recorded the group claiming attacks against up to 20,000 Indian websites, including the Border Security Force site, in retaliation for alleged border killings and other bilateral grievances. The numerical scale was actor-claimed and should not be treated as an independently verified count. Reporting from the period indicates that the campaign involved website compromise and defacement rather than documented destructive data loss at comparable scale. In March 2015 the group was again publicly linked to the compromise/defacement of Shashi Tharoor’s personal website following comments related to Bangladesh cricket. The public record becomes sparse after 2015; the group is best treated as historically active/dormant rather than assumed currently operational.
