Audit Team Ransomware
AuditTeam is an emerging extortion operation first associated with activity in February 2026 and publicly tracked through a Tor leak site from April 2026. Although commonly labeled ransomware, the strongest available technical assessment as of the cutoff indicates a data-theft extortion model without publicly demonstrated encryption. The visible ransom note is named with a random prefix ending in .README.txt, opens with AUDIT LOG: SEVERE INFRASTRUCTURE COMPROMISE VERIFIED, and frames payment as an “Audit & Consulting Fee.”
The operation uses a Tor leak site branded DATA EXPOSURE TERMINAL, an additional Tor portal, per-victim Audit IDs, countdown-driven disclosure pressure and “Paid Victim” placeholders. Public trackers recorded rapid growth through August–September 2026, with Russia becoming the largest claimed-victim geography despite earlier activity in East and Southeast Asia. Technology, manufacturing, transportation, retail, finance and government/public-sector entities appear in the claim set.
INFERENCE (confidence: high): AuditTeam should be treated defensively as an exfiltration-and-extortion actor until an encryptor is independently recovered; assuming file encryption from the ransomware label would distort both hunting and incident response.
INFERENCE (confidence: medium): Tracker correlation between victim domains and credentials present in infostealer logs is consistent with valid-account access or access-broker sourcing, but does not prove that stolen credentials were the initial vector in any specific intrusion.
